This weekends September 25–26, 2021, San Diego Fork Magento meetup took place. Members of the San Diego County participated in this meeting together with people from other cities (LA, San Francisco, Chicago) and from other countries Germany, Netherlands, and Ukraine.

The following resolution was adopted:

Develop Magento Fork under the MagenX (https://github.com/magenx) organization. When another wider Magento community fork will be created, merge the code and effort and work under an use a single community fork.

New Magento Fork should be adopted for Small, Medium, and micro-businesses without exception. The following areas should be fixed:

  • MySQL as a default search
  • A new Web Installation Wizzard should be developed
  • Performance should be improved at least two times. Fixes already exist. They should be merged into the fork when it is ready.
  • Remove Redundant Magento modules.

Add Necessary Comunity Modules to the default installation. Contact with the Extensions developers asks to provide a light version of the features for the community fork.

To attract big clients light version of the B2C functionality should be added to Magento Fork. By default, Magento has a Customers Group we just need to cover it to the Company entity.

Create Comunity Blog and documentation with information on how open-source can improve businesses and developers’ performance. Show how the current state of the Adobe Cloud and Magento Code are harmful to the Merchants using app performance and cost comparisons, and analytic.

Write Open Later to Adobe to stop legal persecution against the open-source movement, developers, IT bloggers, and journalists.

The New Magento fork will be cloud-first and will also include the following tools :

  • Microservices using PHP, Python, NodeJS modern components
  • Cloud Infrastirctireatimatic provisioning using Terraform and automated Application Server Installation for primary cloud providers AWS, Oracle Cloud, Azure, GCP, Digital Cloud. Oracle Cloud already provides an Always Free tier for small and micro-businesses.
  • Contact with agencies to Support new Cloud Infrastructure.
  • A new GitHub and Packagist structure was discussed and approved.

The next Fork Magento meetup will be in two months December 16–17, 2021.
